Week 3 Post

According to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, motivation is one of the most critical aspects of learning and achievement for all individuals in both informal settings and formal learning environments (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2018). There are three major points discussed in chapter six of "How People Learn II: Learners, Contexts, and Cultures" that can impact curriculum design. These points include the contribution of a growth mindset, trying out multiple ideas before settling on one for students' assignments, and the meaningful alignment of student interests with assignments or learning opportunities.

Gura’s ideas about the creative learning environment in "Fostering Student Creativity. EdTech Digest the State of the Arts, Creativity, and Technology 2020: A Guide for Educators and Parents", emphasize the importance of fostering a space where students feel safe to explore, take risks, and express their individuality. This approach directly connects to motivation for learning by creating intrinsic motivation. Therefore, students become driven by curiosity and personal interest rather than external rewards or pressures. Also, some tools and practices provided by Rivero in "EdTech Digest The State of the Arts, Creativity and Technology 2020: A Guide for Educators and Parents" can support creativity are making creativity a priority in the classroom, teachers using digital tools in the classroom that foster creativity, and combining ideas in arts education with formal education.

One ISTE standard that connects with Chapter 6 of "How People Learn II: Learners, Contexts, and Cultures" is standard 2.5.a- Accommodate Learner Differences: "Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs". This is because a lot of students' intrinsic motivation to learn has much to do with their learning environment and their learning experiences. If their teacher is creating learning experiences that help shape them into independent learners and accommodate their differences, they will most likely be more motivated to learn in general.
